One of those "forgotten" movies

Unfortunately headed to oblivion.

Don't randomly come across is much. When I do every decade I say "Oh yeah I forgotten about this!"

Funny and a little dark.

This was one of my favorite childhood movies! Watched the VHS Tape all the time, and finally got it brand new on DVD when VCR's became obsolete.

After Robin Williams died, the price for this film shot up a bit, so its not completely forgotten. But it is hard to find nowadays.

I think it was a perfect blend of comedy and dark reality. Its interesting how "running to the hills and arming yourself" is not such a crazy or funny notion anymore.

Maybe we need to get back to simpler times? So many people are unhappy and feel trapped in their lives. Working jobs that they cannot stand to pay for housing still owned by a bank. People getting college degrees amassing debt and then realizing their college was just a business making money off them with a degree thats not bringing them security.

The movie is great and alittle deeper than it gets credit. When life is not going how you want it, what do you do? It was a beautiful scene at the end when Robin Williams loses his will and removes his clothes in the snowy mountains and Walter Matthau comes over covering Robin with his coat and just reassures him that things can still work out, his life can still have meaning. He still had friendship.

I appreciate this movie more as an adult, seeing how life is not secure or stable, yet we gotta find our hope to move forward.

History is replete with end of the world, governmental collapse, Apocalypse now thought. This movie, made almost 40 years ago, shows that it has always been a part of human behavior. Perhaps it had grown because people can stumble upon it more easily now, with the multitude of cable shows, YouTube and internet conspiracy websites.

Having Robin Williams and Walter Matthau as stars of the movie gotta help its status as well. THeres been many times I went to my library and searched for movies based on the actors names, so if someone is a Williams or Matthau fan they may stumble across this movie based on that.

Theres a movie on Netflix called "The Decline" which has a similar plotline of people off grid surviving in the mountains. But it has a darker plotline of a murder and whodunnit scenario. I keep putting off watching it, but it seems like a good one to watch.
