Do you remember when Robin Williams was holding the gun on Jerry Reed in the back seat? Mathau asks him to put the safety on in case they hit a bump.

I was waiting for it to go off and blow Jerry's brains all over the place.
Guess Tarantino was too.

It wouldn't surprise me if Tarantino in fact took that scene from this movie. Sonny even tells Don to put the safety in case they go over a bump or pot-hole.
