The script was prophetic

When he gets his first paycheck, Gus says, "So I'm still gettin' money when I'm 65? I want mine now! While I can enjoy it! While I'm young!"

Richard Pryor died at 65, so he never got to collect Social Security. He would have been right to not care about retirement age.

On the "Making of.." documentary (which is on the special edition DVD), Christopher Reeve towards the end, talks about his young son saying that his father plays Soup-Man. I don't remember exactly what Reeve said after that, but he did talk about how that would relate to him by the time he turned 60. Christopher Reeve was 52 years of age when he passed away in 2004.
