The Automag is very rare, having gone out of production in the 70s. Not many were made because they were complex - and therefore expensive - to make. Which didn't help their reliability. They were also a handful to use.
Possibly blank ammo couldn't produce enough recoil to work the action and eject a spent cartridge?
