sondra locke...man is she a dog.....

I respect Clint Eastwood, but for 10 yrs, what the hell was he thinking? I can't understand what he saw in her, that washed out face and that skinny body. A big hollywood star can do much better than that.. I think they put her in this movie as a rape victim, just to show, some men are interested in her...

lol thats great yeah she ruined every movie she was in with clint thank god he got rid of her in films after this one, sadly for me it was one film too late as im sure someone else would have been a much better in this film. i dont own it on priciple

And she CAN'T ACT ! She's a b*tch in EVERY role she does. The Gauntlet...Every Which Way But Loose...Bronco Billy...

I was starting not to like Clint Eastwood movies because she was in EVERY SINGLE ONE for a while!

...BTW:

You forgot "Mystic River" where she would play the Laura Linney role. Or Marcia Gay Harden's part. Or the pretty blonde who comes back to Kevin Bacon...

ONLY SHE WOULDN'T BE PRETTY!

I concur. Sudden Impact is on TV in an hour and I was looking forward to it until I remembered she was in it.

I found this to be the best Dirty Harry film. As to people hating her, never heard or seen her before this film and I thought she was ok, she didn't ruin it.

Ok, I'll be the only positive person here. She's not a great actor, but in The Outlaw Josey Wales....damn, she is hot sh*t. You get to see one of her breasts, and her ass in this movie also! And, it's also a really good Western, so you can't really lose when you watch it.

These are really diturbing posts. I don't think its right to even joke when it comes to the subject of rape. Even if it just a movie. I mean it sounds like you are condoning rape.

I dunno, she is sort pre-goth hot in blonde. She is bitchy in the movie because, like, she is upset.

reply

ok..the rape joke was a little over the top,but i still contend that clint had beer goggles on for about 10 yrs...plus the little harlet sued him for palimony after the broke up....NICE

I dont think anyone can honestly say shes ugly.
Look at these pics

in some, her face is stunningly pretty, with big eyes, small aqualine nose, full lips and narrow chin. look at the pic, where shes half-nude covered with flowers...

but i agree, shes not hollywood pretty, and she seems to have a small chest.

i looked at the links...in some of those pictures she looks skin and bones..yuck....and that face...ewwwwww

1) Eastwood and Locke were never married. In fact, Locke was married to another man (Gordon Anderson) during the entire course of her relationship with Eastwood.

2) Locke's characters aren't often "likeable," but she did possess a certain shrewd talent as an actess, particularly in the right niche. After all, Locke did receive an Academy Award nomination for The Heart is a Lonely Hunter (1968), and she's powerful in The Gauntlet and Sudden Impact, quietly perfect in The Outlaw Josey Wales, and fully competent in Bronco Billy. Eastwood should have cast a more charismatic actress in the Which Way films, but those pictures weren't cinematic masterpieces, anyway.

3) Even though they remained off-and-on lovers for about five more years after Sudden Impact, Eastwood had already stopped casting Locke in his movies. He could have easily used her in Tightrope, City Heat, Pale Rider, Heartbreak Ridge, The Dead Pool, and Pink Cadillac, but in each case he refrained and opted for another actress.

I understand that many fans don't care for her, but a significant number of people also believe that she possessed some talent (again, she did once receive an Oscar nomination).

Also, regarding Eastwood's decision to stop casting Locke in his films after 1983, I doubt that fan concerns played any sort of role, because all the films that she co-starred in were hits, and some were gigantic successes. Every Which Way but Loose, Any Which Way You Can, and Sudden Impact were all top ten grossers, The Outlaw Josey Wales was top fifteen, The Gauntlet was circa top twenty, and Bronco Billy was top twnety-five. Rather, I think that Eastwood stopped casting her because he realized that he needed to vary his choice of leading actress, and because he recognized that others were better suited for the subsequent parts.

I think I will just make the following comments:

1. Shes not Hollywood beautiful. Nor is she ugly. She is a particular type that appealsto those who like that type.

2. She WAS nominated for an Oscar in 1968, before she ever met Clint.

3. Her career has slowed because she was known as "Clint's girl" and now isnt with him anymore. Also, understand that as most actresses get older, they find it more difficult to find roles. This isnt usually true with male actors.

4. Shes no great actress but not bad either. But Clint constantly putting her in roles, some of which werent well suited to her, didnt help many of his movies.

reply

I never said that I "liked" Sondra Locke per se, but I do think that she possessed some talent as an actress. Certainly, most people consider The Outlaw Josey Wales one of Eastwood's masterpieces and one of the greatest Westerns ever filmed; most people consider Bronco Billy one of Eastwood's better movies; and The Gauntlet and Sudden Impact have their admirers, myself among them. Eastwood did miscast her in the Which Way movies, but those were the most successful commercial vehicles of his career, so her impact couldn't have been too detrimental.

reply

Personally I think she is very pretty and also a very good actress.

Then why did she marry him?

reply

Obviously, Miss Locke is leaving something out of this story.

Miss nwwm, if Locke was on your hate list, you'd be all over this and it would be posted all over IMDB but you like her so you pretend to buy this story that she told in her book. If this was Jennifer Aniston or Susan Sarandon telling this story you would calling them liars and ripping them to shreds.

hedoshedo,

You are so wrong in your observation in regards to Sondra Locke in this movie.
She plays a wonderful character and her appearance a testament of her natural beauty.

You apparently were not watching the same film as many others here.

Take your poorly formed opinions elsewhere ;)

reply

She stopped being attractive after she grew up. She virtually ruins the two boxing comedies. And she was simply miscast in SUDDEN IMPACT. She was OK in OUTLAW JOSEY WALES.

reply

She was great looking when she was younger, but I must say she aged badly.

I have not seen pictures of her recently but she didn't look that bad to me in this film.

Peace.

I agree, I looked at her birth rate and was surprised, I thought she was born in the 50s, she looks younger than her age.

I wouldn't kick her out of my bed! And she is pretty hot in Sudden impact. She has beautiful eyes and a nice natural body. And in Sudden Impact she is as sexy as she is deadly. She was hotter in the Gauntlet but also younger. Too bad she didn't show more skin in this one!

You know, I was going to call CHALLENGE on Sudden Impact being the best Dirty Harry movie, but then I realized...I think you're right. It's the Dirty Harry movie I most enjoyed at any rate, but Magnum Force was a very close second. The original is a classic (of course) but can get a little tiring, and The Enforcer has moments but often comes off closer to Mitchell than an Eastwood film. I may watch The Dead Pool again to see if it's as worthless as I remember, but that will be the only reason.

reply

Holy cow, Mitchell? Now you're just trying to shock. That's a very unfair comparison, but Enforcer is easily the worst of the series, with Dead Pool a close second.

As for Locke, I've hated her since I was a child, I could never understand what Clint saw in her, I was always distracted by her face, which does not appeal to me in the least. I found her surprisingly better looking in Josey Wales than I though she would be as it was years before I saw the movie unedited (i.e. the nudity) and I felt she did a good job in The Gauntlet and Sudden Impact. Yet I wish someone else was cast in every film they made together. All I can say to the OP is that she must have been able to f*c* like a champ because I can see no other reason for their protracted relationship.
