upside dooowwwn over the finish line!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love that line!!!!!!!!!!

reply

Yeah, I love every line, it's one of my favorite movies ever.

You cannot NOT be a Nascar fan and like this film, there's no way. If you watch it and don't like it, you ain't one, I'm sorry.

That's why all the bad reviews, none of them are Nascar fans. And if they say they are, and they hate this movie they're morons and liars.

I got into Nascar racing from watching this film and I greatly thank them (Hal & Burt) for it.

In God WWE Trust

reply

yeah, same with me.

When I saw this movie, I was hooked to NASCAR. However, since I live in Germany, I had no chance to see a real NASCAR Race on TV. It was late in the 90s, when the finally startet broadcasting some summaries of races. However, in 2008 I finally managed to fulfill a dream - a live race (Darlington, May 2008)

I just wished I had the chance to see some more live races, especially in the 80s, with the big old cars and some of the old guys like Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, Tim Richmond or Ricky Rudd.

BS!!!!! I was a NASCAR fan for years before this pathetic little "wet fart" of a movie was unleashed, (I went to my first NASCAR race in 1968, which was 15 years before it came out in fact), & I think it's the worst movie ever made about NASCAR, (even worse than the Elvis Presley stinker "Speedway"), & the 2nd worst racing movie ever made, (after Sylvester Stallone's horrid piece of crap "Drivel", I mean "Driven", oddly enough Burt stars or co-stars in both movies). "Stroker Ace" is a lousy excuse for a movie, has as much to do with real NASCAR racing as "Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle" does, (though "H&K" is a great & funny movie), & was single handedly responsible for derailing Burt's film career.

I had the great misfortune of paying money to see this in the theater when it was released, & still feel ripped off. Now, it was based on a great & very funny book called "Stand On It" written by Bill Neeley & Bob Ottum, under the pen name "Stroker Ace". I went in the hopes it would be as great & as funny as the book was, instead I got the names of the characters from the book, about half a page of dialogue from it, & the rest was "Smokey & The Bandit Go NASCAR"; in other words, crap on a stick.

If you like this horrible movie, that's your choice, as there is no accounting for taste, (or the lack thereof, in your case), but please have enough respect for those of us that know & followed real NASCAR racing for years not to insult us or our intelligence by saying we have to like this garbage to be a "real" NASCAR fan. I've never met anyone else that's seen this abomination that has anything good to say about it, NASCAR fan or not. Maybe you need to get out more?

You obviously don't have a clue about real racing or good movies.

Please dont hold back, tell us how you really feel about this movie?

As far as this being the movie that derailed his career, I think that was smokey and the bandit 3 or 2, both sucked big time. Its not like you need a brain to watch NASCAR, fast cars drive in a circle for 2 hours and get in big wrecks. Almost as thrilling as watching tennis or grass grow. I dont think they meant it to be a bio pic on NASCAR just a funny movie on the drivers and what they have to do to either get or keep sponsers. I really dont think they meant for people to take their portrail of the sport as fact. I mean you dont think that the Simpsons is a true story of a boob working in a nuclear plant, or Hogans heroes to be a true story of a WW2 prison camp? so lighten up its a movie, obviously ya must have loved it or why would you actually be posting on a board of a movie you actually hated? Hmmm?

I don't even know where to start in responding here, except to say that you obviously can't understand or comprehend anything I said in my post, so I'm not going to waste any more time replying.

Consider a remedial reading course, then try addressing my comments, ok? Until then, please don't waste my time since you lack the intellectual acumen to discuss/debate subjects with me.

Hollywood can take any subject matter and turn it into a lousy movie. I guess some racing fans can enjoy this as light entertainment just because there aren't many movies about racing. Have there been any good documentaries about racing? Even documentaries can be very inaccurate.

Wow, 1968? You're old. I was 5 when this movie came out.

And ya have nothing better to do than come here and s h i t all over a decent film? My God.

Just let people like what they like for Christ sake.......

I was in absolutely no way offended by your ridiculous reply, but thanks for trying!

reply

Ok I finally apologize. I was just saying something along the lines of that if you're not a NASCAR fan you probably won't like this movie....

...But you may become one!!!!

I just can't stand someone hating the movie, or any Nascar film, and being a fan of the sport, I just don't get it......

Days of Thunder is a much better movie, but this one's still my favorite.

It's obvious that you don't get it, but I'll attempt to explain it as simply as possible for you, do try to follow along:

No matter if it's about Nascar or not, it is a lousy, pathetic excuse for a movie. Not only is it not authentic to the sport, (which it being a movie, I didn't expect that much athenticity from it), it's supposed to be a comedy & it's not remotely funny.

Much of the actual racing footage in it is lifted directly from CBS coverage of some of the 1981 Daytona races, (the Daytona 500, Busch Clash & the Twin 125 qualifying races that year), & as such is video footage & not even film, be it 16 mm or 35 mm. There's no excuse for passing that off as being from the film, since it so obviously is not.

The direction is horrid, (but then Hal Needham wasn't a very good director to begin with), the acting is embarassing to be kind, & the overall feel of it is a mix of creepy, smary & unfunny sexual jokes & innuendo, (remember that scene where Loni Anderson's character passes out from a glass of booze, & Stroker still attempts to seduce her? That's disturbing, not funny), & the typical feel of a bunch of Burt's buddies & his latest "squeeze" getting together & making a crappy movie, as they mug for the camera. In every single respect that there is, this movie is a bomb & is considered as such by people in Nascar, film buffs, film critics, true Nascar fans, & every other rational human being that has ever been subjected to it.

Perhaps you need to delve more into actual Nascar racing to understand why this movies offends everyone that's ever actually been involved with the sport. Heck just actually read the book they based the movies on, to see how badly it was botched.
