That 8 tone 'song' they repeat...

So, I'm from the midwest US, was 5 when this movie dropped. I've watched it over the years and thought it funny, but one thing bugs me...

What's the 8 note tune they use in the movie. Doug says "Eh, that's our new theme song" CooCoo CooCoo, Coo Coo Coo Coo... Then they play it on the synthesizer to make the nutty hockey players fight. I've never known if that was from their old skits or a hockey reference or a tune from some other show, etc...

Any help?

They used to do the "Bob and Doug" skit on a sketch show. I think it was SCTV (Second City TV). I believe they made up the tune. There is a song by the duo (and I think Rush) called "Take Off," which uses the tune. That is likely the origin. You can find the song on YouTube.

it was their "war cry" in the skits

From Wikipedia: "The sketch's signature "Coo Loo coo coo coo coo coo coo" theme, according to Dave Thomas in an interview on CBC News: The Hour, is based on the flute music used in Canadian television nature vignettes, such as Hinterland Who's Who." Dave Thomas would sing this at the beginning of every skit of 'The Great White North' on SCTV. Hope this helps.
