Filming Locations

Does anyone know any of the places that this great movie was filmed at. I only know of the old University theater which was closed down in 1986 and Casa Loma which was called Elsinore castle. I am interested in knowing where the other locations were such as the beer store, the mckenzie house, Elsinore brewery, the royal canadian institute for the menatally insane, and the hospital where they didn't pay the $6.50 for parking. Any help on finding out where these locations are would be great

I know that the scene of their home movie at the beginning, was at Bluffers park at the Scarboro bluffs and the entrance/exit road was used as the drive to Elsinore Castle that was superimposed at the top of the bluffs. The beer store/exit scene was also shot in Scarboro at a strip mall on the north east corner at midland avenue and eglinton avenue east. The Mckenzie house was located somewhere in Etobicoke i believe, but being a Scarboro boy i don't know much of the area.

Part of it was filmed in Hamilton, Ontario, not far from where I live. One scene in particular is the part before the van goes into the harbour, its rolling down one of Hamilton's escarpment access roads

The McKenzie house is located on Saunders Crescent (NW corner area of The Queensway & Royal York Rd) in Etobicoke, ON.

Thats not correct. Although Saunders Crescent is nearby, their house was actually one street up.

The house is at 82 Uno Drive. I am an Etobicoke resident, and am very familiar with this area. In fact, I drove by there today.

Incorrect about bluffers park for the home movie part.
The "home movie" was filmed on the shoreline of the former Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital (now Humber College South Campus). In the scene with Rick Moranis scaling the rocks, you can see the Lakeview Generating Station (demolished in 2007) in the distant backround.

In the scene with the spaceship van flying (the model on a rope), you can see the smokestack of the old powerplant for the Hospital. In the distance on the left, you can see the Etobicoke Whitlam Tank watertower.

If you have Google Earth, here is approximately where the scene was filmed:

NOTE: The shoreline is different today since when the movie was made. There is some landfill that has extended the shoreline (as of the mid-nineties).

The brewery scenes were shot at the Pacific Western brewery in Prince George,BC

i think the brewery screnes were filmed at the old Atlas Cold Storage in Etobicoke

The Brewery exterior is a matte painting but its looks exactly like the old Molson plant on Toronto's lakeshore (near the CNE). Intersestingly enough after they closed the plant it became temporary studios for some television shows.

I know where they didn'y film Oktoberfest... Kitchener.

And Hosehead the dog was told to fly down the 401 and go north on Hiway 6. Highway 6 north is Guelph. Hiway 8 north is Kitchener-Waterloo. And Oktoberfest is 10 days long and many fest halls, so Hosehead would be busy crashing each hall.

So take off Dave and Rick, and get your facts straight!

I know at least the exterior of the Ocktoberfest was shot in Etobicoke in the same area where they filmed the Police Acadmemy movies. You can actually see the main "academy" building in the background.

It used to be a former mental hospital and at least in the late eighties, they referred to it as Lakeshore Studios, if I remember correctly.

It says under filming locations that some scenes were shot at Victoria Park in Kitchener. Does anyone know which scenes those would be?

Correct, the Octoberfest scene was filmed at the former Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital (now Humber College South Campus).

If you have Google Earth, here is where the tent was set up:

Longitude: 79°30'45.18"W

As stated, this is also where Police Academy was filmed.

And also, this is close to where the "Space Mutants" movie was filmed at the beggining of the film.
