Ontario liquor store

Did any non-Canadians notice/enjoy the socialized Ontario government run liquor store scene. Liquor stores in Canada were once actually like that. They now look like regular liquor stores but most are still run by the Provincial government monopoly.

Socialized liquor, only in Canada eh? Take off, eh!

In Pennsylvania and Virginia the only place to purchase liquor is in State Stores. There are probably a few other states that control the sale of liquor.

Minor quibble with your post, though, that store they went to was selling beer, not liquor. Big difference there, and depending on where you live, where you can buy either of them. You have to go to a State Store in Virginia for liquor, but you can buy beer at convenience stores or grocery stores. In Maryland, convenience stores and grocery stores do not sell beer, but liquor and beer is available on commercial liquor stores.

I thought the set-up of that store was kind of interesting, as they had all their stock in the back with someone out front calling out brands on the loudspeaker. Here, beer and liquor is sold in convenience stores, grocery stores, etc., but it's put on the shelf where customers get it themselves and take it up to the cashier. Some convenience stores might lock up the beer cooler on Friday and Saturday nights to discourage beer runs.

I also found it interesting that Bob and Doug cited a Canadian law regarding finding mice in beer bottles which entitles you to free beer. You'd think that a government-run store would comply with a law like that. 

So, is socialized liquor just like socialized medicine? Free beer for the poor and homeless - now that would be progressive thinking. 

It was like that until about 1970! You had to fill in your order on a piece of paper.

I honestly didn't understand what I was seeing at all with that store!
