What happens

I saw the first third or so of this years ago on tv, but ended up missing the rest. Anybody want to give me a complete synopsis?

I think it was after the "So what cons did you guys pull together" part where it turns out they come up with totally different lists.

Well, Veronica and Gondorff go to Macalinski's nightclub on Coney Island. They know that Veronica is a knockout, and that Mac will go for her in a big way. He does. Gondorff approaches their table, introducing himself as "Trevor Plantagenet." He and Veronica, with the help of Hooker and his buddy, proceed to humiliate Mac, and Mac challenges Gondorff to a pool game. Gondorff hustles him and wins, and Mac is doubly humiliated (right in front of his own guys).

Then Hooker approaches Mac outside the club, introduces himself as "Bobby Florian," a fighter, and tells him a story. Seems "Trevor Plantagenet" owns "Bobby's" fight contract, and wants him to take a dive in his upcoming fight, having bet a huge amount on his opponent. "Bobby" knows he can beat his opponent, and wants to, but knows that "Trevor" and his guys will rough him up if he doesn't take the dive. So he asks Mac for protection. Mac wants to make sure "Bobby" can really fight first, so he visits the gym where Gondorff's gang is set up. The gang puts on a pretty good show trying to convince Mac that "Bobby" is a superior fighter, but Mac isn't convinced. He wants to see "Bobby" fight against a real fighter, so the gang has to hastily come up with a plan to 1) find out which gym they're going to, 2) stall Mac, clear out the gym and replace the attendees with their own people, 3) find a way for Hooker to beat Mac's fighter, since Hooker's not really a boxer. Needless to say, their plans work and Mac is convinced of "Bobby's" fighting prowess. He agrees to protect "Bobby," and we can see the wheels turning in Mac's head (Karl Malden was a truly good actor) as he realizes he can make a bundle.

Asleep yet? Let me know if you want me to continue and I'll get back on it. I'll watch my tape again.
