Why the name change for Peter Bogdanovich?

Hugh Hefner threatened to sue the makers of the film for his portrayal in the film, yet his character used his name and his persona and the script mentioned the Playboy mansion throughout the movie. Yet Bogdanovich's character's name was changed to "Aram Nicholas" and fictional titles of some of his past films were mentioned. Did Bogdanovich just have better lawyers than Hefner, or was his portrayal just less accurate? It seems to me that both these guys, while not directly responsible for
Stratten's death, were not completely guiltless in what happened to her.
