Wizard of Oz connection?

It seemed to me the the first 27 minutes of this film could have been shot in sepia and it wouldn't have made any difference at all. Even places where you wouldn't expect earth tones, like interiors, seemed to have them to excess.

Interesting idea... would you care to elaborate?

Which interiors, though? There were only 2 in the first 27 minutes that I recall:
- Wolff's ship, a base of greys, blacks and general dirt, pierced by sharp colours.
- The inside of the Serum Depot, mostly rust, black and grey, with the mottle white of dusty skeletons.

Given that this is a 3D film, where most colour was excessively bright to compensate for the dark appearance of the filming techniques used, I would wonder if your own screen/video settings are somewhat 'off'...

That said, it's an interesting concept and, to see what you mean, I'm purposely going to play this film in 'sepia mode' on my media player when I get home.

I noticed mainly the interior of the vehicle which was pretty drab. I didn't watch in 3D. When blue showed up at minute 28 or so it seemed like opening the door to Munchkinland.

Doesn't matter if you have it in 3D or not - Filming in 3D with the systems they had back then makes everything look very dark, so they used massively bright colours to counteract this.

Most DVD and videocassette releases are correctly balanced, but if yours was downloaded this or watched it online, something about those versions (autobalance perhaps?) makes them come out really dark.

Watching my DVD, I understand your sepia remark up to about the 6 minute point.
Then it switches to the ship and suddenly monitors and pillars and everything are all manner of bright greens, blues, oranges, reds...
Back on the planet, it does get all browny again but in a more subdued fashion. Then at the 27 minute point, I see what you mean about the sudden blue.
But overall, the colours were fine. I quickly checked my VHS and that was just as sharp.

However, because of my earlier remark above, I just checked this DVD against my downloaded version and you're right - The latter is indeed VERY sepia-washed... Dunno what's up with that, but whoever seeded this out did not correctly balance it!

So yeah, all I can guess is that you have the same *beep* ripped download as me?
