SPACE RAIDERS UNIVERSE

A lot of people make fun of this movie but it has a decent story. I think that the Space Raiders Universe draws on a lot of the Sci-Fi craze after the impact of Star Wars. Ya, ya...it's a movie that rips-off its effects from Battle Beyond the Stars, but so what. I think it would've been cool to explore more of the Space Raiders Universe and get a little of the back story on this movie. It's got a great concept and time has been no crueler to Space Raiders than a lot of space opera TV shows. I mean, didn't you get the feeling that a lot of the dialogue was chopped to make the movie flow faster?

Think about some of this stuff-- who was Flight Plan and his people? Why did Hawk quit the Space Navy? Did he fight side by side with Aldebron in a war? Where did that cheesy ship come from? And what was with Zariotin and his attitude? Was he a human hater, kid hater or a just another criminal alien?

Maybe I should start a fan website and get a following, so we can get someone to produce Space Raiders II. That ought to freak everyone who hates this movie.

Peace.

Some interesting ideas you have thrown around. Why don't you sit down and have a go at writing up a prequel script, or at least a story outline? I am a scriptwriter, maybe I can help.

Would love to. Send me an email or private message. We'll hammer something out.
Best regards, and thanks for the comment.

Clearly a Blade Runner Fan crossing over into the Space Raiders Universe...there could be no greater association....

Corman might even ask for a rewrite just to see if we would actually do it...

I see this as a possible fan movie...if there is anyone out there brave enough to take it on...

Hey E-O!

Just off the top of my head...other old sci-fi films out there that I might recommend...hmm...let's see...I'm sure you already have Silent Running with Bruce Dern, so you might try one called "Day of the Triffids"...or..."Voyage to Prehistoric Planet" starring Basil Rathbone which was actually an interesting take on planetary travel...you might also try a real cheeser...called..."This is not a Test" if you are into the doomsday genre...and let us not forget what I believe is Joan Crawford's last sci-fi appearance in "TROG"...a story about the missing link...and what other obscure things can I think of...hmm....there is the movie "SSS..." where a guy turns into a cobra...and of course, "The Man with X-Ray Eyes"...starrying Ray Milland...and by the way...Don Rickles is in that one as a total perv...

On the subject of sequels...I believe we would have to write a prequel for Space Raiders...this way we can revisit characters long before they're ever killed off in the Space Raiders movie...and we can find out more about Zariotin...that crazy lizard guy with a taste for mice...

Delish!

Actually, EO, I could probably do a fan-slide. I did one for Star Trek vs. Star Wars. It's a riot. I've been thinking about doing some things with Flash but I just don't know enough about it right now. An animation, though, sounds like a possibility. I'll look into some good software and put some scenes together on a layout. Anyway...let's see what happens...that was a good idea to motivate me.

Cool!

Hey jvaldeztoo, I sent you a private message a couple of weeks ago, never heard back / didn't get a notification. I don't know where to find the private message inbox feature? Or is that for IMDB Pro users only?

Anyway, I've come up with some ideas. Definately a prequel that leads into the gang of people we know from the film.

I've actually thought that a new trilogy would be a good way to go, with maybe the final one a remake of the '80s version.

Corman is now 82 and he's still going strong with film productions! He's been turning out 20 films a year but as he's gotten older you can see it slowing down. It would be lovely for him to be able to return to the sweet tale of an innocent kid caught up in a space adventure.

Hey Mike:

Didn't get it and I'm not too good with this forum stuff on IMDB either. Here's my email: [email protected]

I keep writing down ideas...but I keep changing my mind...it's one of those things you realize that you are putting a history together that has to work...the more I think about it though...space raiders could really go somewhere...this is because pirates are popular again...and it is a space pirate movie...

Corman is the man...that's for sure...just the chance to get to meet him is enough. I was thinking that the prequel really needs to be an evolution of how they came to the point of needing to steal that freighter in the movie to begin with...and I still think Zariotin needs to be explained. His character is just too good to pass up.

cheers!

This is what I wanted to know about the movie outerworld as well. Space Raiders is a cheesy 80's scifi movie, but it would have made for a great scifi movie series or even a tv series.

<Just off the top of my head...other old sci-fi films out there that I might recommend>

Can't forget Panic in the Year Zero or the tv movie (tv Pilot's more like it)Where Have All the People Gone (I think would have been a Americas version of Survivors, but with solar flares killing everyone instead of a virus)

Oh man!!! That's the movie I was thinking about the other day...Where Have All The People Gone...I think that is such a cool cheezer...major pilot flavor as you said, and a good Zombie style Omega Man TV series is long overdue...

Cheers!

Did you guys get anywhere with the prequel yet?

You gotta love "Where have all the People Gone". It's one of my favorites. I always felt that it was supposed to be a pilot for a TV series that didn't get picked up.
