i wonder why this film gets it's cult film title?

why do people love this film so much?

It feels genuine and the kids act like kids, the teens act like teens, with a dose of cheese and some mystery. Small details like the little kids tossing sand on Angela and her cousin after he 'saves' her from the water. The characters are always busy, unlike too many B movies (and TV) where everyone stops to dialogue and background characters are just milling around. The pacing is good. The murders make sense. The filming is competent. The characters look and feel genuine, not like they stepped out of a modeling agency. And overall it's a fun movie to watch.

what is really interesting to me is how it's star felissa rose didn't become a star in cult movies until just recently in like the last 10-15 years as an adult actress. isn't that weird and interesting? i mean it's like it took this movie to become a cult movie for her to become a cult star. i bet this movie didn't become a cult movie until about 2000. am i right? i mean it took a really, really long time for this film to become cult film.

why did someone on here say the director wasn't a real director? i mean i thought it was very well directed. it has a very friday the 13th(1980), look, feel, and atmosphere to it without it being a ripoff of it.

Not sure when it became a cult hit. I was a kid in a fairly small town when this came out and didn't see it or F13 until years later. It has a lot right, but it's kooky. I heard the screenplay was written before F13 and similarities are coincidental. It's different enough from F13 to stand on its own.

No idea about Felicia Rose except reportedly her mom hated the idea of her being in a horror movie and wouldn't allow her to be in any scenes with killing or blood so the boy who played her cousin wore a wig and was her stand in for a lot of scenes. I can only imagine what her mom thought when she saw the final scene of her daughter's face on a nude man.
