Has anyone actually been to a Sleepaway Camp?

I feel like there are dozens here in New England but I never had the folks send me off to one. Did anyone every stay overnight for a month or two? What was it like?

Okay, what was it like at one in New England? Let's see, early 1980's as I recall. Most of the campers and counselors were Jewish with thick northern Jersey or Brooklyn accents, the head cook was a shady man out on a work furlough for unknown reasons the manager refused to reveal to anybody, a cute girl with a boyish figure that was very guarded and rarely spoke, the girls covered up most of their bodies, but the guys showed off their figures with mid-riff shirts and short shorts, etc. LOL

I have. I was at a school-sponsored camp when I was 12, in a small town in Vermont. It was basically a farm, but nice and bucolic all the same. I actually milked a cow at this place! lol

I also got hired at a different one, much later; this was a camp in New Hampshire, in an area rife with resorts and camps. I was the staff videographer. Glad to say that nothing as horrific as what you saw in this movie happened there!
Since it was a boys' camp, the sports programs were pretty central to the whole thing. We also had hiking trips and the like. The most exciting moment was when they hired two helicopters to bring in the two captains of the color war teams. They landed right on the front lawn, to everyone's amazement.

Yes, I went to a sleepaway camp in PA 5 years in a row when I was a kid. It was a lot of fun. Made great friends and had great memories there.

I attended a camp-esque place called "Nature's Classroom" for a week in the 6th grade. A lot of fun. This was in 1993 or 1994.

Camp Maplehurst in upstate Michigan 1984. I absolutely loved it. Stayed for a month. I was starting 5th grade in the fall. Had my first girlfriend and kiss at that camp. We would sneak out of our cabins at night and visit the girls cabins. A counselor was in each cabin but they usually went out at night. Good times.

Sadly no one was massacred, none of the cooks were after baldies, and none of the girls had dongs (at least that I'm aware of).
