5 Worst 80's slashers

Scream - Tedious. Too dark to see whats going on when anything did happen. Lousy "Ghost Town" setting that is just a crappy backlot set.
Boogeyman 2 - 75% of it is recycled from the first one, which wasn't that great either.
Splatter University - This one was so forgettable I can barely even remember anything about it.
Mountaintop Motel Massacre - Not a fan of the crazy old fat lady psycho genre.
April Fools Day - The title says it all.

I thought the show Deadliest Catch was about STD's.

Scream and Boogeyman 2? Contenders, for sure.

AFD, MMM and Splatter U.? Not even close to being the worst.

Try out Terror at Tenkiller, Berserker, Fatal Pulse, The Majorettes, Blood Cult and The Last Slumber Party for some of the worst.

April Fools Day is generally well liked. It has a bigger budget and better production values than most 80s slashers. I could almost give it credit for trying something different, but I just felt insulted by this film.

I saw The Majorettes a long time ago, but I don't recall it being that awful. Maybe just below average.

Never seen any of the others on your list, but thanks for the recommendations.

I've finally seen all of those you listed. Terror at Tenkiller, Blood Cult, and The Last Slumber Party were awful, but I actually kind of liked Berserker and Fatal Pulse.

reply

The Majorettes could have been a great slasher! It started out great but then it turns into a police-car chase movie with nothing to do with the beginning!

reply

Las Vegas Bloodbath I would say is the worst.

reply

Movie House Massacre is the worst that I've seen.

The lovable character of Selena makes Movie House Massacre gain a few points up from the bottom of the barrel in my eyes.

Why April Fools Day?? I loved that movie as a kid.

"See, it's OK. He saw it on the television."

reply

April Fools Day is a hollow, gimmicky film whose sole reason for existing is it's twist ending. Made at the tail end of the 80s slasher craze, it's sort of an anti-slasher. Made for those tired of "formulaic" slashers.
I first watched this around 1986 when it was first released, and found it kind of insulting. If someone is tired of "formulaic" slashers, then go watch something else.
Plus this had the PG-13, watered down vibe of many recent mainstream horror films. Even though I believe it was rated R.

i actually enjoyed all those films except boogeyman two

How old were you when you saw April Fool's Day? I was 6 years old....

I saw it for the first time when I was about 13 or 14 when I found out the movie I originally saw was a remake.
I liked it, but got a little uninterested at times. I actually have it on DVD now with My Bloody Valentine (both on one disc) for like $3 or so. Yay.

Blood Beach is pretty terrible....
