Then the Indian laughs, as though he isn't going to die, then drops dead in the water.
No, towards the end the protagonist shoots about 15 Indians off their horses as they cross the river towards him with his "Henry Repeater", but their reactions aren't shown. And I don't know what you mean by "tamper".
