Movie is made by its theme song

No, not Bob Seger. The haunting Tangerine Dream theme that plays several times in the movie. Adds a whole different dimension to it. Without it, this might feel like a more lightweight teen exploitation comedy.

Halloween is another example. Wouldn't have been nearly as scary without its creepy theme song.

Agreed

I also agree.

Truth. The movie is not very good but there is a lot in the way of music, production, and iconic scenes that elevate it to quasi-classic.

I watched it tonight for the first time in years and was actually taken aback at just how bad it is as a movie! It's really not aged well at all. But I still agree with what you said- the soundtrack, colors, some of the cinematography, styling/outfits, RBM, etc. make it a nice art piece.

reply

Aside from Sorcerer, it's probably the best use of Tangerine Dream music in any soundtrack.

reply

Completely agreed, it's good but forgettable without the soundtrack.

reply

I liked Tangerine Dream's music, but I also liked the opening song Every Breath You Take by the Police band.

reply

Totally.

Replace the Tangerine Dream music by cheesy saxophone (which was often used in sexy dramas or comedies from the 80's) and the movie is ruined.

Coincidentally, Rebecca De Mornay wrote the theme tune to a Bruceploitation movie called Goodbye Bruce Lee: His Last Game of Death: https://ew.com/article/1992/02/14/rebecca-de-mornay-back-vengeance/
