Was Joel a virgin before he hooked up with Lana?

I'm guessing from the way he banged her on their first meeting - probably not. Although, it seems strange, as it feels like Joel doesn't have that much experience with the opposite sex.

I say he was. Why else would his buddies be so concerned with getting him laid if he had already lost his virginity?

reply

I assume yes, since it all starts with him relaying the story with the girl and his friends calling him out that he ran out, went home, and whacked off. He pretty much confirmed that's what happened when he told Miles he wasn't really into the girl.

Hmmm - interesting. Yes, I sort of take your points. Joel was quite naive at the beginning of the film - and had been pampered and spoilt a bit too much by his parents - and so, his understanding of the outside world was quite limited. It does sort of seem likely that he didn't have much experience of the opposite sex.

Of course he was a virgin! Get off the babysitter, Joel. Police showing up for two ppl having sex?! He handled it well because he prolly read a lot of Penthouse Forum. It has clues to what your supposed to do. Plus, he's rich, so privilege is there. It makes sense. Move on.

I always took it like he was

People trying to get that reference are gonna end up Losin' It!

I always figured the "Shelly Long in Tijuana" story was a bust and yes Lana was his first one.

He was a virgin IMO. To me that was the whole point of the baby pictures segment during the scene, telling us “Joel ain’t no baby no more.”

reply

Yes, I believe he was a virgin and was also quite conservative in general, even in the way he dressed, and his reluctance to do what hid buddies wanted him to do. I'm fairly certain some body language early in the film show us that he was making up his history.
