The greatest aspect about Crime and Punishment is the mocking, psychologically probing dialogue between the Inspector and the Criminal in Dostoevsky's novel.
Kaurismaki's laconic dialogue doesn't work too well in expressing Dostoevsky's passionate, stirring dialogues, although he got the gist of it.
I guess Raikanen (sp) basically told the girl to take a hike since he doesn't want to ruin her life during the prison scene? He loved her enough to turn himself in. She was his conscience.
