Braden and Cathy.

I saw this movie and I absolutely loved it! As a kid I would always love to sit down with my friends and watch this movie. I have a few questions regarding Braden and Cathy though:

1. What is Cathy's relationship to Braden? Some say that Braden and Cathy are boyfriend and girlfriend, but Cathy has a thing for Cho?

2. When Braden is preparing to go to the gallery to meet Caifano, he tells the sumo servant to keep an eye on Cathy and not to let her out of the house. And that if Cathy gave him any trouble, the sumo servant would know what to do. Why didn't Braden want Cathy leaving and what did he mean when he said the sumo servant would know what to do if Cathy got out of line.

3. While Cathy is on the phone, the sumo servant walks in and shout something at her in Japanese. Cathy quickly puts the phone down and pretends like she's giving herself a manicure. And then the sumo servant chuckles wickedly. What was that all about? And why was the sumo servant acting like he had just caught Cathy doing something she wasn't suppose to be doing?

If anyone has any answers, please let me know.

Hello, I will try to answer your questions! Although it has been a while since I have watched this movie, I did have a dream about it last night (weird hey)

1. Cathy works for Braden, and he supplies her with her share of drugs I am certain. She is probably a drug addict, well possibly a user anyway that lets Braden take advantage of her whenever he wants - some sort of a psychological hold over her. She knew it was heroin when Kane broke the doll in the gallery, so she is 'in' on Braden's operations. And on Cho, yes she has a crush on him, the old student-teacher thing i guess, heh.

2. This question is a tough one, but it is my understanding that Cathy is a kind-of live-in prisoner with Braden, under his evil influence. In my opinion, he would have told the Sumo henchman not to let her out of the house because he would be worried that she would tell Cho what was about to go down in the gallery ie 'its Braden, hes using the dolls for his heroin deals'. Either that or he just does not like her having any independence whatsoever.

With regards to the Sumo servant 'knowing what to do' I think this is referring to putting her in the sauna, as Braden does, and torturing her when he puts the jets on her face and she starts screaming! (after she 'lets him down'). You can tell he enjoys the torture because of that evil laugh! (Different servant to the original Sumo here)

As a side note, earlier on in the movie it is interesting that when he arrives home and sees the Sumo trying to take adantage of her, he promptly disposes of him - this has always bemused me. Seems overly protective to me.

3. Again I just think this is another example of psychological torture, not letting her contact anyone or go anywhere. I dont think Braden trusts her to keep the whole drug dealing rap a secret, especially since she admires Cho so much. The Sumo laughs because he enjoys having a prisoner, a hot one at that.

Something which amuses me is how when Braden attacks Caifano's building, it shows him throwing that object into Caifano's hand, and then laugh, but that is all! He has bigger fish to fry. I would have thought Braden would tear him up into little pieces. Food for thought, anyway.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, him letting Caifano off the hook had me scratching my head as well.

The only thing I can think of, is that the rest of the scene was edited, because it does'nt make a hell of a lot of sense.

its nothin really to do with cathy. braden is to be admired, he was hustlin some brown from his japanese connection, an entreprenur........or whatever. its all to do with his being weak with the shuriken and missin the kids head. two reams back, you saw the shot. i think we all know he was basically *beep*

I haven't seen the film in a few years but i think Cathy finds out Braden is also a Ninja (Cho knows he practiced it but not that he was actually a Ninja).

When shes on the phonne to Cho i think she tells him about Braden. Braden then keeps her prisoner cause she knows about him.
