Still the GOLD STANDARD of Ninja cinema after all these years!

Recently revisited this one when i spotted it on blu-ray after not seeing it for about 16 years. Not only does the action and cool characters(and soundtrack!) still hold up well, but it is simply the quintessential GOOD Ninja movie.

Pumped up fight scenes, great characters, FANTASTIC soundtrack framing the on-screen goodness so well, a badass villian, great kills, a simple but effective story arc, ninja power-up montage, etc.

It even has one of the few examples of a Caucasian/American ninja character done right! Braden was very believable as a bad guy and a threat in this one, and that laugh was simultaneously funny and badass!

Did i mention this one has a great villian? Because it does! And that fight at the end! Holy crap!

Overall, this movie is the GOLD STANDARD of good ninja Cinema. Its silly in some cases but, also takes its self dead-serious in just the right amounts.

When I was a kid, I was crazy in love with this movie. It was like Star Wars for me.

I still like it, but the original American Ninja is maybe slightly more entertaining, nowadays.

No way! Revenge of the Ninja is the greatest Ninja movie ever! They make ninjas look like superheroes!

American Ninja is decent, the sequel was terrible - but Revenge of the Ninja has better fight choreography and a better plot. I find Sho Kosugi more believable than Michael Dudikoff for obvious reasons.

I just find American Ninja is a little more entertaning overall, these days.

A really cool vibe runs throughout it.

You discover more about Joe as the movie goes along.

Better acting and pacing.

Jackson is one of the best charactera in any 80's ninja flick.

Three sequences are just so cool to me:

The soldiers turning the tables on the hijackers.

Jackson picking a fight with Joe.

The prison break-in/fight.
