The Ewoks ruined the movie....

Ep 4 and Ep 5 were awesome, great dark and doom theme, and Ep 6 had elements of the same, but instead of keeping it that way Lucas goes to the formula of putting teddy bears into the movie to appease the kids...he could have used some other alien race without making the movie so cuddly.

I was in the theater on opening weekend and wondering WTF is with the teddy bears?

reply

Yep me too, it was just unnecessary like Jar Jar Binks.

Someone told me once that Lucas wanted some Hobbit like race to help defeat the Empire. Not sure if it is true. I would have much preferred the Wookies being involved.

reply

Wookies would have been better. Way more believable. Stormtroopers are wearing armor yet they get taken out by rocks and spears?

reply

he originally wanted to use the Wookiees, but he had already shown they were a tech savvy race, so he had to come up with brand new "furry primitives"

reply

All those silly fur puppets running around in the woods just killed "Star Wars" for me forever. I haven't seen another SW movie since.

I was also there on opening Friday in a giant line.

It was suspected at the time that many movies back then were about introducing toys as their sales could rival a movie. However, no one saw the Ewoks coming.

When they first appeared in the film, it was okay because they were creative looking, but as the film progressed and it got cutsey vs cute, it was sooooo disappointing.

i actually disagree with this line of thinking, GL always wanted to use children and little people, notice the jawas are very similar, in fact at one point he considered doing the entire cast that way

Not the best of the Star Wars Universe for sure but the Return of the Jedi remains still a very good movie.
