Bruno Mattei's RATS vs James Herbert's DOMAIN

Haven't seen the film, yet, but after reading the synopsis I'm noticing this sounds a lot like James Herbert's third book in The Rats Trilogy, DOMAIN. I'm even shocked that no-one else has brought this up either, but has anyone seen the film and read the book and thought that there's some similarities here?

Not really. Both feature survival in a post-nuke setting and harassment from rats.

I think the inspiration for Herbert's novel was the 1974 movie CHOSEN SURVIVORS. There are a lot of direct similarities, aside from the antagonists being bats in that film.

In the featurette of the movie Mattei said his inspiration was Dawn of the Dead, basically it's a zombie movie with rats.
