Was this EVER released in the USA?

I am a west german ABBAfan of middle-age, so of course I know this movie. I used to live close enough to the east german border to pick up their TV signal (black+white though), and so I did see this movie at least twice in its east german (synchronized) version. West Germany had never bought it for broadcast, and I never knew why.

Later (1990s) I got a VHS copy of a TV-copy from a swedish penpal. It had subtitles (swedish for hearing impaired), so it helped me improve my swedish language skills.

When I moved to the USA, I could not bring my VHS tapes, so I have not seen it for years. I would love to see this movie again, but alas, it seems unreleased (or at least unknown) here. A swedish DVD (which I bet is existing) will probably not help, as Europe has country code 2, while we have code 1 here. Or is there an unicode out by now? Does anybody know?

Is anybody reading this at all? This is only the second post in this film's history, so I am really curious to hear (read) from anybody.
