Love this movie!

Definitely one of the best horror sequels made

I enjoyed the film but hated the big twist and Mary Loomis. Meg Tillys acting was horrendous.

Anthony Perkins and Vera Miles made the movie

Absolutely agree with you. Tony Perkins and the team brought Norman back in spectacular fashion. And what an ending!

It is a great movie. Unfortunately, since it is the sequel to an incredibly famous and renowned movie, it will always live in its shadow. But as far as horror sequels go, it holds up well with great plot twists and a surprise ending, one you wouldn't expect.

The ending knocked me for a six and the first time I saw it at the cinema and saw Norman take that massive heavy shovel upstairs with him, I just knew that it was going to play a part in something and then Mrs. Spool showed up. What a smashing—pun intended—ending and Norman goes back to normal...or so to speak.😱 The film pretty much delivered in all departments for me and while sensationalized and a bit plot convoluted, it didn't matter due to the quality of the film. It delivered more than it promised and I had zero expectations going in.

I completely agree with you. I'm watching it right now. Even though the original is the better movie (pretty obviously), there are times when I would rather watch this. And I might even go so far as to say that Anthony Perkins outdoes himself here. There are a lot of neat little touches in his performamce throughout. The scene at the beginning of the movie where he has just been declared legally same (and released), watch Norman's facial reactions when Lila Loomis is going off on one of her tirades and when the Robert Loggia character is defending Norman. Norman practically falls all over Loggia's defense, like "that's right... the judge said I was sane.... silly Lila" and then Norman gives a friendly little nod in Loggia's direction as the nice lawyer continues to defend him. It's such a unique, but en\enirely believable quirk of acting. And I daresay Norman becomes very endearing , almost right away, funny and very cute and, IMO, extremely sweet. I think Perkins should have received an Oscar nomination for his beautifully felt performance here. I would have accepted his invitation for sandwiches and milk.

Though why did Mary Loomis hand the big knife to Norman? Was she too dimwitted to ) know how to cut her own damn ham sammich!

Agreed Mr. H, in spite of the films contrivances, Perkins gave a layered and dimensional performance and made you care about Norman. Although the original is undoubtedly a classic, I still prefer part II for entertainment value. Part III meh, and while it has some good sequences and really comes together in the last half hour, I just wish that I didn't have to abide watching Diana Scarwid act to get through it. Even Perkins doesn't seem as involved or as invested in his performance. Must have been the directorial duties that sidetracked him.

As for Mary handing the cu..cu..cutlery😄 to Norman, I think that was part of her game to see how he reacted. Remember, we are not aware as an audience at that stage that Mary is plotting with her mother.

I have just finished watching season 2 of BATES MOTEL—was 2 yrs ago when I watched the first season and didn't recall much—and found it utterly compelling. Norman's psychosis is fully starting to develop and more hints are coming out about his relationship and life with Norma. Gees, Farmiga is terrific and I see she is producing the show as well. There are 5 seasons at this stage.

This movie was good but I honestly preferred 3. The whole conspiracy against Norman in this movie kind of drifted away from the continued story of him and mother which I loved in part 3. I will say though the this movie was very tragic for Normans condition. Am I wrong in thinking Norman would have been pretty much fine and normal if those two had not messed with him? The scene when he comes home though and is thinking about when he poisoned his mother goes against my theory though. However maybe it was simply only a memory and not him hallucinating it. People can overcome things but still have memories flash through their head. Anyway his sanity was definitely unnecessarily compromised which makes this a tragic movie. I did not like the twist at the end regarding his mom and loved that we found out it was all a lie. If it was true it would kind of destroy the whole mythology of mother bates.

Part 2 was necessary in order for us to get to Part 3 because it shows us how/why Norman goes crazy again.
