That sleazy jerk Toomey in the restaurant

The sleaze that was taking care of Norman's hotel while Norman was in the asylum was being really creepy to Mary, why was he so interested in why she spent the night in Norman's house? It was none of his business, I love when she said:

Mary: You want to know what Norman's like?
sleazy Toomey: yeah
Mary: better than you'll ever be, Fat Boy!

That was a good exchange in the diner. Toomey was the epitome of sleaze.

"Toomey was the epitome of sleaze."

The actor who played Toomey, Dennis Franz, also did a good portrayal of a sleazy Homer Simpson. It was a one-sided film about Homer that had been inspired by sexual harassment allegations:

Watch him in Blow Out, with frequent collaborator Brian DePalma. Even his character's name (Manny Carp) was slimy. I loved Franz in NYPD Blue as the tough, damaged, imperfect and hugely likable Andy Sipowitz.

He played a detective in Dressed To kill and was a jerk but ended up being more likable later on in the movie.

The actor would have been pleased to hear everyone's compliments about his sleazy character. For an actor that means, good acting skill. No actor wants to be told that he is unconvincing playing a character role.

It helped too, that he was an unattractive man which tremendously helped his sleazy character 'look'.

A lot of Hollywood actors over the past 60 years made a B-list career playing thugs, villains, hoods, hooligans, simply because they 'looked' the part. Tall, muscular men with hard faces made excellent Hollywood bad guys.

Ironically, when these guys passes away in their later years, family, friends, and acquaintances often described these Hollywood villains as the nicest, friendliest guys around. This means you can't judge a book by its cover but we humans genetically seem to be predisposed to that behavior.

He's a total *beep* in Die Hard 2 as well.

Franz is a pretty good actor, but for me, not in this film.

Waaay overacting the sleaze. I only partly blame him. Some of it was on the page and the director was right there the whole time.
