Somebody explain the Ms. Spool thing to me...SPOILERS

I really liked the movie, but why does Ms. Spool show up out of nowhere at the end of the movie to make this big confession? Norman said he'd been expecting somebody. Why? I guess this was supposed to be the big surprise ending, but it confused me. Was Ms. Spool gaslighting him too? Or just a crazed killer?

Ms. Spool was a crazed killer. She claimed to be Norman's real mother, but in Psycho III it was revealed that she was Norman's aunt. She kidnapped Norman when he was a baby after killing Norman's father. If you don't mind spoilers, you can read the explanation here:

I saw it as contrived and dumb.

I don't understand the clamor over this movie. They thought it was a quickie, produced direct for cable (Oak Industries helped produce).

I forced myself to watch the whole thing so no one could tell me I missed the best part. There was no best part.

I did appreciate Perkins' acting, and Miles' a bit, though her character did a 180 from #I. She played her 60s TV movie bitch role very well, though it's tiring for a feature-length film. For me, Tilley's acting was ruined by the cheap looping.

I just watched the movie and I liked it until the stupid ending you just mentioned. It makes the movie pointless.
