Is there any difference? (Apart from less reviews and user comments?)

Apparently the 1973 movie is a live action movie starring Ken Takakura (Nevermind the incorrect poster shown). A sequel to this movie was made in 77 starring Sonny Chiba and is probably one of the worst movies he's starred in. The 83 flick is an animated feature and a classic. 98 brought us the animated feature Queen Bee which is mediocre at best.

Is the '73 version available in the US. I can't find it anywhere.

I've never seen it be made available, even on eBay.

The most I've ever seen for the 1973 film was a poster that someone from Japan had put up for auction - there's a possibility that it has never been released on DVD over there either.

The 1973 version was released in DVD only in Japan but is available via fansubbers with english subtitles. The 1977 is available in DVD in US as part of the Kill Chiba Collection.
