Yeah, I had a hard time with this too, and I know quite a good bit about Golgo 13.

*Spoilers! Warning!*

From the looks of it, Laura has become a prostitute after Robert had himself killed and she left the mansion. So she's out hooking on the streets and grabs a guy walking past by the arm. He turns around and to her suprise, it's Golgo 13.

Now you've got to understand that Golgo is the whole reason Robert is dead, Emily doesn't have a father, Snake raped her, Leonard (attempted) to kill himself (Golgo beat him to it), and why she's selling herself on the streets. If it weren't for him, none of that would have happened (well, maybe some of it since Robert was intent on ending his life, but you get the point).

So she's shocked to see that she happened to bump into the guy that's responsible for her life being in shambles, and she pulls a gun out of her purse. A round goes off, freeze cell on the gun. Now the view goes back to Golgo 13 walking down the street normally, roll credits.

So that shows that she tried to kill Golgo 13, but due to the fact that he's walking away unharmed, she wasn't successful. The ending after that is entirely implied. He could have killed her, could have knocked her out, she might have missed and he kept on walking, etc.

I believe the ending was made like that intentionally so that the viewer could try to formulate their own conclusions. Some movies like to do that.

So there you have it. That's what happens as far as I surmise. We don't hear or see any other gunshots other than the one Laura fires, but anything could've happened since the frame freezes then cuts to Golgo walking away all nonchalantly. I'm going to say that the most likely scenario is that he probably killed her (making poor Emily an orphan) since he's conditioned to respond in that manner.

In either case, it is a bit odd how the crowd acts normal after the gunshot goes off. Although the same could be said for the hit attempt on Golgo at the airport.

I see, I thought maybe he was walking very slowly while shot in the back

reply

Maybe he was in New York and thats why nobody reacted...
I always figured he knocked her out, but in the second movie they make it painfully obvious what he does to the girl at the end.

reply

what is obvious what he does to her ? and if you mean cause there was a second Gologo fril (Queen Bee), that means nothing

reply

Golgo would have killed Laura. He doesn't tolerate witnesses.

I...drink...your...MILKSHAKE!

I DRINK IT UP!!!

reply

Yeah, based on his character, he would have definitely killed her without question. That's the implication I get since that's how he operates.

Don't stand behind him if you value your life.

>Golgo would have killed Laura. He doesn't tolerate witnesses.

Precisely. In the series, he actually ends up doing exactly that. There's an episode about a lady who witnesses him escaping from a hit at a lighthouse. Golgo doesn't do anything at first, extending a silent professional courtesy of allowing her to live for 1 final day. She uses that day to come to terms with the fact that she's going to die, and then he snipes her.

I gotta be honest, I felt kinda bad for Laura. At first, I assumed that was a different woman and I for the life of me I couldn't understand why she was selling herself like that on the street. But because her life is in shambles because of Golgo like you said, it does make sense why she would do that.

Personally, I don't think Laura could bring herself to shoot him. Even if she did, what good would it do? It won't erase what happened...and if Golgo died, we'd never have the sequel: Queen Bee.

They need to make another Golgo 13 movie pronto. I want to see more!

reply

There are hints in the movie that Golgo 13 is immortal. I am sure he is not, but the ending might be symbolic to that fact.

reply

To be honest, it was incredibly stupid. Even if she missed, everyone would be running in a panic.

However, I interpreted it as that Laura shot herself.

"I hate PG-13 horror flicks"- THIS IS MY SIG GENIUSES!

reply

After watching some of the anime series based off the manga that is now coming out in Japan and getting more insight into his character, I have to say that he definitely shot her and left. No doubt about it.

I don't agree with the idea Duke shot Laura at the end. Neither so I agree with the idea he didn't. Because, simply, we have no way of knowing either way. Nothing is shown on screen after she pulls the gun out, nor do we see who made the shot that rings out, and where said bullet went.

Clearly the makers of the manga wished it ot be open to the interpretation of the individual viewer. It really comes down to personal opinion of what we make of Golgo's character, and what we believe he would have done in that situation, although he clearly makes it out of that situation unscathed.

I am under the personal impression that Golgo didn't shoot Laura. He doesn't appear to kill innocents; those people who aren't his professional targets, or not after him, or simply in his way. Sure, he could have killed Laura, simply to save his own hide, but I believe it unlikely. I believe Laura missed or Golgo disarmed her, as they were in close proximity, and then Golgo simply walked away, leaving Laura shocked and stunned.

reply

After seeing this movie for the first time, I figured that was either a miss-fired shot or Golgo disarming her, himself. Course the true answer to how Golgo dealed with Laura is annoymous. All that really matters is that Golgo lives on as a hitman.

Plus the ending doesn't change the way I think of the movie itself. I still think of it as a great action anime film.

I always thought that maybe she just imagined pulling the trigger. She wanted to do it. and maybe she carried that gun for the sole purpose of hoping to see him one day. but in the end she didn't actually fire the gun, and just watched him walk away
