I love this movie!! Using the $10 on a string to catch the German merc!!

I think you'll find that Nemnez, the "merc", took Mike by surprise and during their ensuing fight, the $50 000 given in an envelope by the Colonel at the start, fell out of Mike's pocket and caught Nemnez's attention, stopping the fight.
