GREATEST HORROR FILM EVER?

Memorable lines, a nice-looking babysitter, a perverted teddy bear and a pit full of trollologs. What more could one ask from a film?

Long live Sammy Snyders!

I would have to agree.... I saw this movie a long time ago at my cousin's house when I was 11.... i remember the part when Jamie throws the football to Sandy's boyfriend, and the dumbass *surely* see's the huge gaping hole in the ground, but still jumps in the air to catch it. My cousin and I almost fell off the bed laughing..... I didnt know the name of the movie for the longest time, then recently found out what it was...... I now am proud to own it. A couple months ago, I made some of my co-workers at the bookstore watch it with me at a friend's house. We all had beer and had a good time. THey were pretty amused. I love this movie. Sometimes, I can't help but think that the director/writer couldnt have been serious when filming this (like the part where Jamie is running while pushing the old blind lady in her wheelchair, and its a view of the sunny hillside, with her screaming.... ) great stuff.

SAMMY SNYDERS OWNS!

This movie was so good! I need to find it somewhere on DVD or something because it is too precious not to own. I saw it about eight years ago in eighth grade and have been looking for it since. Seeing Teddy tell him to kill people was suprisingly funny and the fact that the babysitter has this knowledge about Troglydites and figures out that the Trollylogs are related to them. Oh man, classic Batman type of sleuthing. Definitely a movie to watch with a room full of people to laugh with and scream with.

reply

maybe not as a legit horror film, but as a cult classic its in my TOP TEN.

I don't know if it's the greatest horror film ever, but it's definitely the greatest horror film in which a 12-year-old pervert is encouraged by his possessed teddy bear to push all his various enemies into a pit full of hungry trogolodytes. And what an ending!

Spoiler below!

Sorry but I didn't think anyone could like this movie. But that is just my opinion. The only reason I watched it was because it was filmed in the town that I currently live in which is Beaver Dam. I did however find it hysterically funny. Me and my bf were just laughing our asses off when he threw the old lady into the pit.

reply

The only spoiler is that you live in the town it was filmed in and you do not like it.

My personal favorite scene is in the beginning when all the kids are eating and there's close-up of this one kid stuffing his face with a hotdog, it's like an acid flashback to my youth.

And it's really the only reason anyone should ever watch it. Us Golden Beavers would probably be better off watching a good old Fred MacMurray movie (The Absent Minded Professor, anyone?) to be reminded of home, but it's certainly a local curiosity, and a fun movie to sit around with your friends and shred to pieces.

"Hi! I'm Jamie!"

WHAP!

Is this the movie where the kid tells a teacher or someone that her daughter has been kidnapped and he forces her to strip in front of the window? Otherwise I'm not sure if this is something I saw many years ago....

Thanks!

oh man,i almost lost my mind when the littlegirl walks in on her stripping. my DVD says autistic, too and i still haven't figured it out. no wonder he was so *beep* up. that girl at barely even met him and she bags on him. then she somehow can take apart her bike and ride it long enough to get him to. damn, and he went straight for a wheelie right off the bat. you can almost hear the director yelling : "YYYYEEEESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

A friend of mine saw the movie and hated it. He later disappeared in the woods under mysterious circumstances...

Muhahahahaha!

BWAHAHA!

I love this movie. It's so delightfully awful. And that dialogue!

"Well, if it isn't Clumsy-Stupid."

I saw this movie on that monster theater hosted by Joe Bob Briggs and spent years searching for it. Now I am proud to own the dvd.

They're trollologs...They eat people.

Wow, I forgot about this thread I started back in 2003. Cool that it's still here!

I watched this again last night - first time in about two years maybe. And it's still as great as ever. I was reviewing it for our Facebook/Youtube channel. Did those websites even exist back then? Here's the link:

Come on in!

This movie was filmed about 25 minutes from my house. On another note, I actually spoke to Sammy Snyders on the phone about 10 years ago. He was very gracious. He lives in Toronto now and is a dance instructor.

Anyway, I'm not sure this is the best horror movie of all time. But it's pretty high on my list. And I'm so glad to own a nice widescreen DVD copy of it now.

LONG LIVE JAMIE BENJAMIN!!!

Based scene.

Yeah, right.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

Depends on how you define greatest.

When someone asks for a top 10 Horror films of all time list, I personally can give three different lists based on differing criteria;

1. Favorites - This is heavily, heavily based on nostalgia. The films I discovered as a kid and young teen and have regularly rewatched over the years dominate the list. They're unlikely to be ousted. To many fond memories attached and too many viewings under my belt. New discoveries will never attain that nostalgic value nor will they be able to overtake these films on total view count.

2. Best - This is based on technical qualities. Some films are brilliant in many aspects, the story, acting, special FX, OST, cinematography and so on. This list would be biased in favor of high brow, dramatic, makes-you-think Horror films alongside technical masterclasses.

3. Most Entertaining - This list would be based purely on fun factor. Movies like The Pit (1981) would feature on this. Films that have a humorous touch, short runtime & fast pacing, bizzare over-the-top/very memorable concepts and scenes, some gore, some nudity etc,.
