If Fred's birthday was in February, how come all the pirates were on the ship in open shirts and short sleeves and falling in water and stuff, and girls frolicking around in summer dresses... a coastal town in England in February would be freezing!

Not in Penzance. It has a very temperate climate, being in the most southern part of England in Cornwall. It's known to have good business at the seaside resorts even in the off season. They even can grow sub tropical plants there.

Plus it's a musical filmed on soundstages that look like the sets on a Disneyland ride. Would we get the same effect if everyone was wearing their winter coats? No.

You want realistic? I wouldn't be watching Pirates of Penzance.
