When I watched this movie, I wasn't under the impression there was any "sabotage" surrounding the horse's death (looked like colic to me) I have a different theory though: What if it was heart failure? Such things can happen in the racing world when an animal is overworked (Phar Lap WAS famous for carrying alot of weight in races, after all)
Any other theories?
another rumer has it that his hart colapsed thats why he sufferd so much for a few hours before his death dont forget they said his hart was the biggest of all horses.

but I have seen horses playing around just fine in a post parade.. then in the MIDDLE of the race just drop dead from a heart attack..
In 1932 people thought Phar Lap was poisoned (Tommy Woodcock-Phar Laps Strapper believed he was and did so until the day he died).But saying that there have now been new reports that Phar Lap had actually died of a disease called Duodenitis-proximal jejunitis(Similar to colic but a lot worse).This disease wasn't known of back in April 1932. it wasn't discovered until the early 1980's.So As the disease was unknown, so was the treatment. No amount of care or skill would have stopped this disease back then and even now with our advanced medical procedures.. close to 70% of horses that is stricken by this disease are killed by it.... Sadly, Phar Lap had no chance of surviving.
Phar Lap did have one of the biggest hearts found in a race horse his heart weighed 14lb an average race horse heart usually weighs 9-10lb. It was printed in the Herald newspaper (Australia) on 20th May 1932 that Dr Mckay - (autopsy) said that pharlaps heart was perfectly healthy and he didnt die from heart disease or anything similar.
