as far as my searches have gone phar lap is not available on dvd,which is a great shame the video indeed is classed as rare. if i find out anything i will let you know, u should try looking on australian dvd sites as this movie was made by the australian film institute
shareIt has been in the past, I've seen it in shops, but doesn't seem to be available any more, even here in Australia. There's occasionally a Phar Lap DVD up for auction at ebay (so it was definitely available once). I'm waiting for Phar Lap on DVD too - my video copy was taped off TV during the 1989 Melbourne Cup carnival, so it's not exactly in top condition any more...
shareI picked up one of the Phar Lap DVDs from ebay. It was done with a computer DVD writer, so my home dvd player wouldn't play it, but it looks ok on a computer. They picked a fairly good tape for a master, but there are still visable tape defects once in a while. My wife, who is the one who wanted the movie, is still happy with it, since she had long ago trashed her VHS copy.

If they were on earth they would know that there is a huge demand for this movie to be released on dvd in all regions and then they would make an absolute fortune. I have seen this movie only once, quite by accident as I had never even heard of Phar lap but it has remained in my memory. Phar Lap, like Seabiscuit are equine heroes who will never be rivalled. ISSUE IT ON DVD NOW!!

I'm not sure if those looking for the DVD are aware of this but I got a copy off E-bay last week. It's distributed by BLV Entertainment. This is the first time I'd seen it since it first came out. My 5 yr old daughter loves horses and it was a special treat watching this with her. I had forgotten that they start off with him dying which seems kind of a wierd way to do it. Wouldn't it of been better to leave that till the end? Anyway, still a great flick.
shareJust looked it up on www.ezydvd.com.au , there is a 2-disc Special Edition of Phar Lap being released on October 20. Current Pre-Order price is AUD$29.83. No word on what the special features will be, but given that it's a 2-disc pack i'm guessing they should be fairly decent.

BTW - Did you know that many of Seabiscuit's wins were reportedly with the same saddle that Phar Lap carried when the won the Agua Caliente Handicap...
I have only been able to find that it is available in Austrailia. As it should be, but does anyone know when the 75th anniversary addition will be available in the USA?? My VHS version is very blurry. :) Any info will be appreciated!! Thanks!

I got the VHS version from e-bay a few months ago for under $5 and in excellent condition, we're going to try to burn it onto DVD with one of those DVD burners. Its a more expensive way to go about it, but it might work.
