*sigh* This has been raised a thousand times before...no-one (sane people, anyway) argues that Phar Lap was bred and born in NZ. However from the age of around 2 he was educated, trained and raced in Australia....ergo, an Australia racehorse.

Likewise, there have been many Australian-bred horses that go on to race in NZ, or anywhere for that matter...but really, unless they were trained in and raced a significant part of their career in Australia (especially during their early years), they remain nothing more than just 'Australian-bred'...as with Phar Lap, who was simply 'NZ-bred'.

Ok, we're just splitting hairs....he was as good a thoroughbred as the world has seen, no matter where he came from or where he raced.

Cheers

no no wait i just realised , that if aussies call Phar Lap a aussie then they are calling NIcole Kidman an American

I don't really get your point mate. Sure, both were born overseas (yes, I am an Aussie)...but yeah, they are both considered Australian, at least to a (debatable) degree, no matter how you slice it.

but anyway, you're comparing Nicole Kidman to Phar Lap???.....hehehehe....hmm well, one is certainly a legend, no doubt.....and the other is...sure, she's American, that works for me ;)

you kiwis are so silly, its funny how anything succesful that comes from australia, and if it has even the slightest connection to new zealand, you kiwis will try to claim it as your own.

phar lap was an australian racehorse, he had nothing whatsoever to do with new zealand horse racing.

i reckon you kiwis should get out there and create your own icons and legends, and stop staking claims on ours.

reply

umm i think its more aussies because you guys seem to steal musians celebs and golfer "micheal Campbell" who may i say is clearly a maori and had comfirmed this. and many more plus bands to name "crowded house, Split enz and now your claiming evemore more just because one of the brothers were born in australia but has new zealand parents.

and to you saying that phar lap has no connection to new zealand it clearly states in the great kiwi book "the great phar lap was bred in New zealand" and the NZI Infomercial and on wikipedia. Clearly state now how phar lap has no connection what so ever to new zealand.

Oh yeah i think us kiwis are prettly laid back. You know what i think us kiwis can give ya Russel Crow for ya troubles.

ummm actually its australians that do this. russell crowe was always claimed as australian, till he threw a phone at someone *LOL* and 'our' mel gibson? *rolls eyes*

australia lacks culture of its own, and desperately attempts to leech it off others.
