Real horse--ugly?? No way!

Is there anyone else who is shocked to hear the real Phar Lap described as ugly? Maybe it's just because I love all horses (my own horse is a swayback with a split ear and a fatty lump on her side, and I love her to pieces anyway), but I've seen pictures of Phar Lap at several different points in his life and I just don't think he was ever ugly! Ungainly, when he was younger, yes. But never ugly.

Some people claimed he was ugly when he was young because he hadn't grown into his frame, but other people continued to describe him as ugly even into his five-year-old season, when he had grown into his frame.

Am I just biased because of horse-love?

LOL maybe, but that's ok. He was fairly unsightly as a youngster when he first arrived in Australia (by all accounts) because he was covered in warts.

Well, I have seen the real Phar Lap (albeit in Melbourne Museum, stuffed/taxidermified) and he was bloody beautiful! He may have been gangly when a yearling, but as an adult horse he was stunning.
