I first watched this film about 10 years ago, while at school (all girls). Must have been about 20 students and a couple teachers, and all of us were crying our eyes out throughout the movie, esp when pharlap is being trained on the sand hills and his untimely death. I love the way this film portrays Pharlaps story more then the people characters... onwners, trainer etc. It has to be my all time favourite factual based film. And the music is just fantastic too.

I thought the film was way OVERrated.

I had my arm twisted into seeing this film and it was a bunch of boring crap about a race horse. Even more annoying was a totally irrelavent sup plot about the young horese's trainer.

What anyone liked about this bore-a-thon is beyond me.

"...bunch of boring crap about a race horse."

Well, golly gee. Considering the movies title, front cover, back cover blurb, etc. what else were you expecting? A tap dancing hamster perhaps?

You are a fool EnemyOfTheState full stop

I guess you would have to be a horse person to appreciate the impact that Phar Lap had on the racing world. The movie wasn't meant to be exciting, it was meant to be a monument to the greatest race horse that ever lived!

this is over rated piece of sh*t

You're a doofus jalkor!

It's not over rated at all. Phar Lap is an Australian legend. He is very much loved by everyone here from all walks of life.

The movie is a great reflection of his amazing life. The real Tommy Woodcock had a tiny part in the movie too.

The original Australian release is different to the American one.

Everyone has an opinon...but if you aren't a horse racing fan (at least in part) then you should be on guard for yes, (drum roll please), this film is about a thoroughbred legend. So why bag it out, EnemyOfTheState, when you already had it firmly in your mind before seeing the film that it was just a "bunch a boring crap about a race horse"!?

I don't know about having to be a horse person - I have no particular interest in horses or racing, but thoroughly enjoyed this well made, good story well told, film. Sadly it has only been shown once in the last 10 years or so on TV in England, and lack of availabilty on on VHS or DVD is a mystery to me.....perhaps a petition is needed for re-release, I'm sure there would be sufficient interest.

I think that now there has been significant scientific findings on Phar Laps death it would be nice to see the movie again. I watched the movie when I was about 10 (now 24), and loved it. Remembering it is a docu-drama, the movie pays great respect to a racing legend. Those who want to bash it obviously don't understand how important Phar Lap was to those suffering down under during the Depression. Think about it, our times are totally different. Nobody would idolise a horse now, but then, he was a hero of hope.

It doesn't seem to be on TV too often. I would really like to see it.
