Underrated Film - good sword and sorcery foreign film

HEARTS AND ARMOUR is a decent sword and sorcery film of 1983 that originated out of Italy. There's three known American actors in it, including Tanya Roberts, formerly of Charlie's Angels, who lost none of her beauty from the 1977 television show.

I was able to purchase an excellent VHS copy off eBay a few years ago. One day I hope a remastered dvd comes out.

There's excellent sword fighting in the movie and of course some sorcery, which is wisely kept to a minimum which keeps the movie grounded in historical action adventure as well as fantasy.

HEARTS AND ARMOUR takes place in an actual historical setting of medieval Spain as the Spanish Europeans were in the midst of an internal crusade to wrest Spain back from its centuries-old Moorish kingdoms. At this time in Spanish history, both sides are near equal foes. The Moorish kingdoms are not united and neither are their Christian kingdom foes. But each side has the other side for a common enemy.

Voluptuous Italian beauty, Bradamante is physically assaulted in a river canyon pass by a horrible band of mentally-retarded, wannabe rapist robbers. There's about five of them and they all look like scrungy homeless guys with weapons. They giggle, cackle, hoot, and grunt about like hyenas which makes them scarier. They communicate with each other with the same kind of hyena noises. You really start to feel sorry and scared for Bradamante as these greasy goons start tearing her clothes off and putting their hairy paws all over her body, especially her bare white, creamy buttocks. But lo, along comes a proverbial knight in shining armor atop a powerful, large brown horse. This mystery knight proceeds to lop off various pieces of anatomy on the robber goons. One goon loses the top of his scalp. One loses his hand. Another loses an arm. Another loses his leg below at the knee. And the last seems to lose either fingers or his arm. What's so funny is later on these same sorry band of desperate, horny bandits reappear to attack the lovely Tanya Roberts and her incredulously small escort of only TWO Moorish warriors. That's right. Only TWO Moorish warriors escort a beautiful Moorish princess, Tanya Roberts, who everyone knows is Caucasian and looks nothing like a Moorish woman. When these same hyena-cackling bandits reappear, it's hilarious. The one missing his scalp has it covered with a piece of cut and bent tin. The one missing his lower leg replaced it with an ingenious wooden prosthesis leg with the face and ears of a horse. The bandit missing his hand now has a socket where he screws in a broken sword. The one missing his arm has a round plate with a spike on the area where he has a loaf of bread stuck on it. Then there's Ferrau, a blue-eyed Caucasian Moorish knight in a funky Moorish suit of metal scale armor and helmet which makes him look like a two-legged bird of prey. Ferrau looks like a drugged-out middle-aged European guy who turns out to be desperately horny, too, so that he almost rapes Tanya Roberts. Poor Moorish princess Tanya Roberts. She has to endure sexual assaults like occupational hazards. But just like a bodice ripper romance novel, she gets the handsome hero in the end and presumably off to a life of love and happiness.
