a rip off of Phantasm?

this movie seems to me, to be almost a copy of Phantasm, but on a lower budget anyone agree?

reply

Except for the fact that they're both horror flicks taking place in a white-walled mausoleum, there's no similarity at all.

RAYMAR VS TALL MAN ------ MOVIE IDEA!!!

reply

No Phantasm didn't have Zombies in it did it ?

reply

Well, it sort of did. The tall man would send bodies over to his dimension to be reanimated as Lurkers!!! You know - those lil cloaked freaks? I, also, see no similarities.

This movie doesn't have zombies in it either. They're simply corpses moved through telekinesis.

reply

I agree the mausoleum looked identical...

but the similaroitoes end there

reply

Did you actually watch both of these movies??? Yeah both films have mausoleums in them, but other than that. . . NO!!! Being familiar of both films, I wouldn't even agree that the mausoleums look the same.

it is a copy of hell night 1981,i love both of these.

There are definite similarities to "Hell Night." However, since both films were made at the same time (the rough cut of "One Dark Night" is copyrighted 1981, though it wasn't ultimately released until '83), it's implausible that this one's a copycat.

As for "Phantasm," other than the obvious mausoleum and a striking similarity to The Tall Man, I don't see how anyone could draw comparisons. The plot of "Phantasm" takes a backseat to jump scares and cheesy special effects. "One Dark Night," on the other hand, has a coherent story in addition to some jump scares and cheesy special effects. And no, I'm not knocking "Phantasm," which is a great film for what it is -- though it's fairly nonsensical.

^Vinnie how can you dish on Phantasm? I like your Blog and this is how you treat the movie!?

"but on a lower budget"

Phantasm- $300,000
One Dark Night- $978,000

There is no similarity other than dream images and a mausoleum.
Frankly, I think ODN is creepier than Phantasm.

Been a while since I last watched PHANTASM, but I actually think I like ONE DARK NIGHT better.

I don't think the movies really share anything in common except one thing ... That doctor guy who visited Raymar's daughter and gave her the tape....He looked a lot like the actor who played as the Tall man from Phantasm ... I have always thought that since I first saw the movie in fact, so, yeah, Not a ripoff...and I think ODN is the better of the two.

"One Dark Night" is perhaps one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. and NO, it is in no way related to "Phantasm".
