I find it interesting that people were already back in 1982-83 already calling for Roger Moore to retire being that he was getting "too old" to play a superspy, yet nobody bats an eye over the notion of Tom Cruise doing more Mission: Impossible movies despite also being in his middle 50s.

shareI kind of consider Mission: Impossible III to be the Spy Who Loved Me of that series. What I mean is TSWLM is often regarded as the moment that Roger Moore finally began to hit his stride as James Bond. The first Mission: Impossible was criticized for having an overly convoluted plot and not enough action. The second film was criticized for not having a decent plot and character development to justify its 2 hour running time and was deemed too goofy (it was directed by John Woo afterall). M:I3 seemed to find the right middle ground between action and plot.
