Is this the most underrated Bond film?

I always hear people complain about the Tarzan yell and the clown suit. But these things only make up a small portion of the movie. Overall I think this film is one of the best that Bond has to offer. The locations are amazing and there's even some really good action scenes. Especially all the scenes that take place on the train. They're just so good.

And it even has one of the best quotes of any Bond movie. "This is for my brother." Bond kills him. "And that was for 009." Oh my god!!!

I agree with you. This is probably one of my favorite Bond films. I like to think of it as the last classic Bond film. A View to a Kill was pretty bad and didn't have the same edge as Octopussy. In my opinion Octopussy should've been Moore's final film. The series didn't really pick up again until GoldenEye and at that point it was already the 90s. Your thoughts?

This remains my all time favorite Bond films and any time I've sat a friend or girlfriend down to watch it they have had a blast. Despite a few silly moments (most of them have at least one or two) it never fails to entertain and unlike A View To A Kill, it builds genuine suspense.

This is the last Bond film that had the old magic.

Absolutely. And now it's 33 years old. That's blowing my mind.

The clown suit and Tarzan yell are not even worth judging this movie by. For Your Eyes Only is my favorite Bond film of all. This movie comes in a close 2nd. Roger Moore himself said Maud Adams was his favorite his favorite Bond girl.

yes

It is escapist in a pleasant way.

Probably, it definitely seems to draw strong reactions. Some MSN reviewer ranked all 50 movies and said it was the worst, while Jim Emmerson, Roger Ebert's web editor, said it was the only one he really enjoyed (I find both of those statements to be a little strange). I think it's the best of the Roger Moore bond films, and one of the better films in the series.

While the action scenes in Octopussy are spectacular I feel that FYEO was a far better film and should have been Moores final appearance as Bond.He just looks far too old for the role in this one.

I most definitely agree with you sir, it is without a doubt a very underrated Bond film.

I think that the Tarzan yell and the clown suit help the movie. At least it does for me. I like all the Roger Moore quips as well. It has my favourite Bond villain. And it's my favourite Bond movie.

Re Moore's mature period. I prefer his last 3 as Bond. And it's the comic appeal of 'Octopussy' in particular that really endears me to this film most of all. But I realise that a lot of Bond fans don't like all the comic dressing up. I try to juggle with the serious issues and the comedy together. But overall it still works for me.
