Question about the space shuttle on the TV

Was the shuttle on the TV as Faye is on the phone with her husband (right after she just caught Rick with a girl in the hotel room shower) symbolic of something? It just seems to be right in your face (and hers)....I always thought it meant that there were 'other possibilities' than what she had, u know?

any thoughts?
