Strippers in movie less muscular than they are today.

It seems strange to compare the level of muscularity allowed then to what is required now. It seems like you have to look like Mark Dalton to be hired as a stripper now. I wonder why women (and gay men) were satisfied with less muscularity back then than they are now?? I mean you had muscular movie stars back then like Stallone and Arnold that were popular--but it had yet to become important to look like that as a male stripper. It seems that there was a gradual increase in the size of male strippers since that time, and by 1990 or so, strippers were noticeably more muscular then they are in this movie. Any thoughts on my observations?

I prefer Atkins' lean, toned, natural-looking physique to the steriod-jacked, tanned/oiled/waxed-within-an-inch-of-their-lives meatheads that are usually found today.

This is Dorsia?

reply

Yeah but I'm wondering why it has become like that...but then again, female strippers have change a lot too. There's much more fake/huge boobs, and now even fake butts, at gentlemen's clubs these days. It didn't seem to be as important in the past, so I guess both male and female strippers have changed.

I heard that there's even going to be a female strip club with all muscular female dancers!!

reply

I think it's just that classic American attitude. We want everything bigger: cars, food, body parts...

This is Dorsia?

reply

Haha...yeah, I guess that's just what it is. Although aren't things beginning to get smaller, like cars and calories?

I guess the new values of smallness havn't effected strippers yet...but who knows....

reply

yes, a faltering economy does always lead to a little downsizing, but we'll return to our gluttonous way eventually.

This is Dorsia?

reply

No, actually I don't think it has to do with a faltering economy. The ethics of the the preference for the smaller has been an ongoing societal phenomenon for the last 15 years or so--through much of the prosperous 90s and 2000s.

Anyway, even if what you're saying is true, what's the reason for the defeatist attitude? Who's to say there will be a return to any particular way?

reply

I just hope people realize finally the negative effects of steroid use and excessive plastic surgery. You'll look like a freak!

This is Dorsia?

reply

I guess to be honest I do get hot at times watching strippers, regardless of how much plastic surgery or steroids they've had, don't you (if you don't mind my asking)?

But yeah, there is a high potential there to look like a freak if you go overboard.

reply

Yes, I get turned on whenever I see a guy I find attractive take off his clothes, whether it's on a stage, a screen, or in my everyday life :)

This is Dorsia?

reply

I was surprised too at how lean the strippers were in this movies...but it didn't really bother me:) The guys were all nicely toned (especially Atkins) and that can be just as attractive as a guy being pumped up:)

reply

i don't even like guys with big muscles, anyway. i prefer more lean guys anyway....so i really enjoyed the main character in the movie! lol

reply

I hear that a lot from women, but it doesn't really evidence itself in what women want to go pay and see in a stripper. Would you pay money and give good tips to see a leaner guy strip? If so many women like it than why don't you see less bulky and muscular strippers--I mean, I don't know, maybe there are, it's not like I've done a scientific analysis haha, but there doesn't really seem to be so much from what I gather.

reply

Comparing real life to this movie is a joke in itself. Strippers were beefier back then than Chris. Strippers today also use a rubber sleeve around their unit to give the impression of a bigger basket. God people are naive.

reply

Well that's not entirely fair. Movies often can be at least good simulations of real life. I have actually seen some documentary/news footage of male strippers from this era as well, and many of them were leaner and closer to Atkins size, while others were more beefy...yeah i guess you're right.

The reason is because the shows are put together by men most of the time. They assume that women will just naturally like the guys if they are bigger then regular guys. I was a waiter at a men's strip show here in L.A. in the early 80's and none of our guys were big, muscular guys but the women sure loved them.

reply

Soooo were the strip shows where you worked put together by women then?

well i like a wife beater with a hottie, that's my weakness!

reply

I prefer the lean, muscular type like Chris Atkins. Those guys with muscles that are so huge, they look like they're on steroids---now that's creepy, and it actually turns me off. Chris Atkins is the epitome of hottness in this movie.

Are you a woman or man?

I just watched this film for the first time tonight, and thought the same thing.
I was surprised at how little musculature the male strippers had compared to Chippendales today.
Heck, I just saw a Chippendales post on Facebook & my jaw dropped. Not so much from their sexiness, but from the sight of the dancers with NOT ONE SHRED of fat on their bodies!
Frankly, that isn't sexy to me. They looked like something out of the text "Grey's Anatomy".

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

reply

Yeah they probably all use those fat cutting drugs now, female strippers do too. Also they weren't chippendales in the movie and the chippendales back then too were more muscular than the strippers in this movie.

Like most careers, stripping has gotten more competitive since the 80's. Also the beauty standard is much tougher now; just look at some of the "sex symbols" of the 80's. Many were untoned, and just not that great looking. Burt Reynolds? Ewww. Tom Selleck? Ewwwww! Today you have to be absolutely flawless to be considered sexy. The male strippers got bigger, and the females got bigger boobs too. The sad part is, many people don't find today's sexy "ideal" to be that sexy at all. As a male, I think breast implants are completely unattractive, and the thought of handling those rubbery fake things is just a turn off. I mean if I sucked on her nipples I would be afraid that silicone or some other poison chemical would leak out! Also as a guy, i don't want huge muscles. Guys who are built like that tend to look old really fast. I prefer to be built like Ryan Gosling or Joseph Gordon-Levitt, with a thin, sleek body that looks good in an Italian suit. I don't want to look like a gorilla, and i think women who are attracted to huge guys are almost always stupid and a shallow waste of time.

you forgot bigger butts, a lot more female strippers have bigger butts now too. I wish they had more muscle personally, I like muscle on women. I was actually seriously considering investing in a strip club featuring fit, muscular women. And be fair, Tom Sellect was a very handsome man, and he had a good build. Burt Reynolds was more of a 70s sex symbol but same goes for him. And I don't really believe what you say about how today you have to be "absolutely flawless" to be considered sexy. I think in recent years, this has started to change somewhat, like with girls considering guys like Michael Cera attractive and sexy and guys thinking plain looking albeit cute girls like Emma Watson are hot.

reply

I hope you are right because I'm getting tired of looking at plastic people on tv and in movies. It can be attractive but it isn't the only look that can be sexy. It's true about Burt Reynolds too; Most people are familiar with the 80's Burt, but I saw him in this Western from the 70's, pre-moustache..he was great-looking. And women with serious muscle tone are SO much hotter than these coat hangers with plastic boobs we have today..

reply

lol "coat hangers with plastic boobs", that's good. And it's always nice to hear from a fellow musclegirl lover. I assume you would like an all fit girl stip club? Not so much big bodybuilder women, but more fitness competitor level, although it would probably be a good idea to include some bigger bodybuilders in order to cater to the big musclewoman fetish. I was thinking there could also be femdom fetish rooms as well. It seems to me that such a place would make good business nowadays, certainly at least break even. I'm actually kind of surprised that there isn't one yet. What do you think?

Oh,come on. Liking a big dude with muscles dosen't mean a women's any more shallow than a guy who prefer blondes with big breasts or whatever. It's society that has told people from birth that that is what we as men and women should like. Obviously, you were both after the '80s, because both Reynolds and Selleck were considered major hotties back in their prime. Also, beauty standards change almost every 5 to 10 years, if you have noticed. And, yeah, as a woman, I think the obsession with plastic surgery, breast implants, and looking absolutely perfect has gotten way out of control to the point of insanity in America. That's why I like watching foreign movies, such as European, African, British, and Asian movies, because they're more accepting stars with flaws---foreign stars don't always look perfect, they look more real---for example, the British seem to prefer their stars with jacked-up teeth--at least until recently, I believe.

I agree that people today are obsessed to the point of sickness about what they look like. The sad thing about it is you have people putting so much effort into their personal appearance, and in the process they forget to develop their inside; you know, things like personality, intelligence, morals, and saddest of all, they forget how to be "decent human beings." When I look at people who are obsessed with looking good on Facebook, who stand around the street with their "selfie sticks," I can't help thinking that these people are nothing more than worthless trash. Do they think that they are celebrities, and that anybody really CARES about their insipid lives? To me it's all a big joke. I truly feel sorry for these kind of people; they just seem so lost and delusional. They think they are something special, when they are mostly just big zeros..

And incidentally, as a male, i am disgusted by fake tits and bleached hair and shaved pussies. I have no desire to date a woman that looks like some cum dumpster porno slut. These women are complete victims of men, and there is nothing remotely interesting about them. Ladies: tits made of rubber are ugly, and women that model themselves after whores are only attractive to the lowest level of the male species. Educate yourselves. Become more than receptacles of men's penises.
