Could someone please explain the video game scene?

So did casinos back in the 80s have arcade games to play? Those were regular arcade games, like Pacman/Astroids etc, right? Why were those there?

Also what was with that whole video game sequence between Bond and Largo? Why did they play a stupid game as their game of wits? In Thunderball Largo tossed Bond into a pool full of sharks. That makes sense. Playing a weird video game doesn't make sense.

I am guessing it was Largo playing a mind game with Bond. At that point I don't he knew how potentially dangerous Bond could be to him, so it was a way of sizing him up. Also, he mentioned that he had problems finding a worthy opponent for the game.
