Savage Islands sounds like every other B movie exploitation horror. While it's true that characters' names don't say much about the movie, it's at least more memorable title, once you read the plot synopsis somewhere else. So basically, I'm with you on this.

Yeah, "Savage Islands" does sound like an Andy Sidaris movie or something like that. (Savage Beach, Enemy Gold, Hard Ticket to Hawaii, Return to Savage Beach) I have no trouble with the title, but some of the posters blame it solely for the movie's obscurity.

Harold and Maude, Bonnie and Clyde, Porgy and Bess, Benny and Joon

Yeah, I agree with you. By that logic all the movie titles you've posted should've worked against those movies which was obviously incorrect. The problem with this movie specifically was marketing (and to a lesser extent script, and even lesser - the casting), not the title.

To be honest, it was the alternative title that caught my attention back in South Africa in the mid 80s when VHS video shops were the rage. As a young teenager looking for something to entertain me, it was the title that grabbed by attention, conjuring up images of, er..., savage islands, swashbucklers, pirates, adventure, etc. I doubt that 'Nate And Hayes' would have had the same effect on me, and I would have glossed over it, never having the chance to enjoy and love this wonderful film that became as much a part of my teenage years as other classics like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back To The Future, etc! Many of those types of films have jaded with time but N&H (or to me, SI) stile entertains me as much as it did in the 80s!

I disagree. I think SAVAGE ISLANDS sounds like a fantastic title. Better than NATE AND HAYES at any rate.

Savage Islands is better than the obscure Nate and Hayes. In any event the name is Savage Islands. Only in the USA was it renamed.
