i've always wondered...

what happens to these characters after nate and sophie rescue bully...where do they go from there? they can't sail into the sunset forever! ha...yeah that was lame. but still...they could make a sequel...the actors are older now, of course...but i think it would be interesting to see what bully hayes was doing twenty years later...did he continue sailing the pacific...did he eventually pick up a new loyal crew...did nate and sophie accompany him...etc...

I've often felt that as well. You want to see what these characters would do next - and the film clearly left it open for a sequel, but the film was so ignored that it will never have one.

Tommy Lee Jones never looked better than in this film.

There was a real life Bully Hayes, who would be interesting to explore, only history seems to view him as an unsavory character. I think Tommy Lee has outlived the real captain.

A sequel would have proved interesting, but I'd have to go with Anime or some such idea or a total recast as the actors in this film have aged slightly beyond believable swashbuckling years.

Back in the 80's, people weren't that big into sequels (or so it seemed). It would have been cool though, if they did make one. Even if it's for no other reason than to let us have another look at Jenny Seagrove. She was FINE!

It seems a sequel could have been, but I only found out about it because of Hughes' involvement. Any idea how it did at the box office?

The really Bully Hayes was actually executed, BION [believe it or not], so that was that... As for the couple, who knows :). Maybe their descendants produced Pirates of the Caribbean :).
