Smoking in the Tuna Advertising meeting

Holy crap... those are some heavy smokers.... whoah - I'm old enough to remember when you could smoke indoors without someone looking at you funny - but that was a lot of smoke, am I right?

reply

I actually smoke, and that room would have me gagging for fresh air.

I'm new, please be kind!

reply

I know. I smoke too and I was thinking the same thing 

Poorly Lived and Poorly Died, Poorly Buried and No One Cried

I was giggling watching that scene, with those huge billowing clouds of smoke, like how could they breathe, much less see? That was some Mad Med s***, they WERE aware of the dangers of smoking in 1983!

reply

Yup my thoughts exactly, VERY smoky ... Id have refused to have stayed in that room.

reply

All I could think of while watching this scene: someone needs to hand Caroline a gas mask if she's going to say in there for much longer.

That was hilarious, man.

Listen man. Don't worry about my green funk.

reply

My God, not only was the room filled with smoke, but also Dunkin Donuts and McDonald's wrappers. The employees were sure killing themselves on food as well!

reply

I remember those days too, and I'm glad they're gone.

reply

there's currently a loophole in the state law that allows for smoking like that.

it isn't really a loophole, as much as it is an allowance. you can smoke indoor if you have a ventilation system capable of handling it. the system is $$$$$, so for most businesses it equates to a "ban".

i know of one business that still does have smoking inside. the co-owner of the company chain smokes and sprung for it. the unit only handles his office, but the air turnover rate in there is crazy.

oh... and to stay on topic, yes, that was a lot of smoke.

Go away, or I shall taunt you a second time!

reply

I thought that the amount of smoke being shown was exaggerated. I can't imagine anyone actually being able to tolerate that much cigarette smoke, even back when smoking in such settings was commonplace. Even most bars, billiard rooms, poker rooms, etc. depicted from this era in movies were never this smoky.

reply

Crazy smoke hahaha I remember as a child, being in the diner at the truck stop with my dad, eating breakfast under a CLOUD of cigarette smoke. Sure, it was gross, but it was the early 80s and I kinda miss it. Haha

reply

My Dad worked in finance in the early 80s and he's told me that the sometimes when you entered a conference room, you could barely see the table because of all of the smoke.

reply

I thought some sort of local fog had descended.🐭
