why did they shorten it?

I was so angry when I watched this on ABC Family and it was shortened! why did they do that?

Children's cartoons are often shorter than other movies, and this was probably not intended to be a "film" by itself, but rather part of a DVD or a TV show...

a lot of the scenes with the spirits were not necessarily THAT important to the story. They give more clues as to why Scrooge became the way he was, but they're not that important. I think they just wanted to keep the kids' attention.

Which scenes were shortened? I thought the spirit scenes were far too short already without cutting them even more!

This was a short film from 1983, way before DVD. I know, I watched it as a kid in 1983.

Everything on basic cable is being shortened these days. Sometimes I've stepped away during a commercial and taken a bit longer than I had planned, only to find the commercial still going.

Jack Nicholson warned him jokes ARE funny.

Yeah, they left out a lot of the best, funniest lines. Annoying. Won't be long until we get stuck with 5 minutes of show and 25 of adverts. Pathetic.

I'm glad I kept my old VHS-copy with 47 minutes running time. I mean, only 26 minutes on the DVD?? That's almost half the original running time...

You should upload the 47 minute version to YouTube. I remember the movie being longer as a kid. When i saw it recently, I was surprised at how short it was. I chalked it up to being a child and having a distorted sense of time.

It's always been 26 minutes. IMDb:

Television airings on NBC in the 1980s and CBS in the early 1990s were an hour long. The first half originally featured Donald's Snow Fight (1942), Pluto's Christmas Tree (1952), and The Art of Skiing (1941). Brief clips of other Disney Christmas shorts were shown. The second half featured this short in its entirety. Each of the four segments in the program featured wraparound narrations by Mickey, Donald Duck and Goofy.
