The Moon in the Gutter DVD??

Now that Beineix's "Betty Blue" has been released on DVD AND uncut, is there any hope this earlier effort by him will be released uncut as well?

The 137-minute European cut of "The Moon in the Gutter" can be found on DVD in Japan. You can purchase it via this link to Amazon Japan:

http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0001ZX76S/qid=1127292770/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/249-7428200-3141166

The DVD preserves the film's original 2.35:1 aspect ratio, but is not 16:9 enhanced. Furthermore, although the DVD is NTSC (Region 2), the film seems to be taken from a PAL source, and 4% PAL speedup is evident in the 132-minute running time. Picture quality is okay. Light years ahead of the awful, muddy, faded North American Columbia VHS, but not perfect. The source was likely laserdisc, although "The Moon in the Gutter" was not, to my knowledge, ever issued on laserdisc (a North American laserdisc was planned and subsequently cancelled).

The most important thing to note with this DVD is that the only available subtitles are -- you guessed it, Japanese and Chinese.

Has now been released on DVD in France.

And custom English subs for it are now available somewhere on the Net (although I won't publicly say where).

The Region 1 DVD is about to be released -- October 20, 2009 - I read it includes an interview with Beineix & a photo gallery, but don't know if it's uncut or not.

I read an interview with the director Beineix where he did want to include the complete 4 hour cut of the film, but the film company destroyed all the film which left him heartbroken to not have the film seen the way it should have. Once I relocate the interview I will post the link.
